The Tamil Nadu Government has issued Notification No. II(2)/LWSD/652(a)/2026 dated 24 August 2026, extending the exemption under the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, 1947.
Accordingly, establishments in Tamil Nadu are permitted to remain open on all 365 days of the year for a further period of three years, subject to the prescribed conditions, including weekly rotational holidays, display of holiday/leave details, payment of wages through bank accounts, and compliance with prescribed working-hour and overtime limits. The notification is effective from 24 August 2026
