The Andhra Pradesh Shops and Establishments (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act.No.17 of 2025) was published in the extraordinary issue of the Andhra Pradesh Gazette, dated October 21, 2025. This is effective from November 3, 2025.
Features:
- Ten-hour per day work allowed subject to a maximum of 48 hours per week.
- Spread-over shall not exceed 12 hours on any day.
- S&E Act section 9(3) shall be omitted (For the purpose of stock-taking and preparation of accounts, an employer may, with the previous intimation to the Inspector, require or allow any employee to work in a shop for not more than any six days in a year in excess of the period fixed in sub-section (1), on payment of overtime wages; so however, that the excess period shall not in aggregate, exceed twenty-four hours)
- Maximum overtime is 144 hours in any quarter of year (three calendar months).
- Employees to be provided at least a 30-minute break after working for 6 hours on any day.
- No overtime work for more than 7 days at a stretch.
- Woman employees are allowed to work in any establishment before 6 a.m. and after 8:30 p.m., subject to conditions.
- For establishments engaging less than 20 workers, exemptions are given under all Acts, except the provisions related to registration and renewal of shops and establishments and sections 9, 10, 16, 17,19, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, 32, 47 and other provisions incidental thereto. Provided that, if at any point of time, the number of workers engaged in the shop or establishment becomes twenty or more, then all the provisions of this act shall apply to such establishments.
