Allotment and activation of UAN through UMANG App using FAT

EPFO is working on various initiatives to simplify its processes. One such initiative is the introduction of Face Authentication Technology (FAT) for allotment and activation of UAN through the UMANG App.

The following three services are now available via the app:

  1. Direct UAN Allotment and Activation
  2. UAN Activation for Existing UANs
  3. Face Authentication Service for Existing Activated UANs

These services can be accessed directly by EPFO members using their smartphones without any intervention from employers or EPFO staff.

To use these features, members must have:

  • A valid Aadhaar number
  • Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  • Aadhaar Face RD App (for face scan)
  • The UMANG App (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance)

A step-by-step user manual is attached for detailed guidance on using these services.

Benefits for Employees:

  • This can be availed only by EPFO Members through their smartphones without any intervention of EPFO/Employer.
  • Member can download the e-UAN Card in PDF for handing over to the employer while onboarding in EPFO.
  • Aadhaar data validation directly from UIDAI ensures accuracy
  • Completion of UAN activation process during UAN generation.
  • No requirement of initiating UAN activation process afresh.
  • By utilizing this facility, members will have immediate access to EPFO services such as Passbook viewing, KYC updates, and Claim submission.
  • Entirely paperless and digital process

Benefits for Employers:

  • Simplifies Onboarding Process. New employees can activate their UANs independently.
  • Compliance Made Easy. Ensures that employees are linked to EPFO with Aadhaar-verified details, aiding in statutory compliance.
  • Fewer Errors in Employee Data. Since data comes directly from Aadhaar, inconsistencies in personal details are minimized.

Steps to be followed for Already Activated UANs (Face Authentication Only)

  1. Download Aadhaar Face RD App. There won’t be any Open option for this App. Open Umang App.
  2. Select “Face Authentication of Already Activated UANs” from the UMANG App under UAN Services Through Face Auth Menu.
  3. Tick the consent box and tap “Face Authentication”.
  4. Complete the face scan via the Aadhaar Face RD App.
  5. The system verifies your details and updates EPFO records.
